In addition to everything Apple, MacWorld also reviews and rates DSLR cameras. Here are their top cameras to consider.

1) Canon EOS Rebel XSi
This camera performs very well in low situations, and our reviews show that it produces high-quality images. It comes equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor and a Digic III processor. the Canon XSi 450D is a big improvement on its predecessor. In addition, the Canon XSi has a light and compact body that nicely compliments its superb control layout, a big LCD screen, and a very good 18-55mm kit lens.

2) Nikon D40
This model costs less than $500 and is a really good deal. The Nikon D40 kit comes with the small, lightweight digital SLR camera and a separate 18-55mm lens. While the D40’s 6.1-megapixel sensor has less pixels when compared to many of today’s point-and-shoots, it does offer plenty of pixels for comfortably printing up to 8-by-10-inch images, and our reviews continue to show that the image quality shines.

3) Nikon D300
While it is more expensive, the Nikon D300 has excellent image quality, a robust feature set, high ISO performance, and very sturdy build quality. The D300 should be strongly considered.
